A major Middle East LNG producer: blended planning and scheduling training for an experienced team

In 2025, Reliability Academy delivered a blended maintenance planning and scheduling program for a major Middle East LNG producer. Nineteen of the 20 participants completed the online course before the face-to-face workshop, the group rated the training 4.6 out of 5, and every participant who completed the feedback survey said they would recommend the course to their colleagues.

The problem

The challenge

This is not a story about rescuing a reactive maintenance organisation. This client runs a mature operation: experienced people, established processes and systems, and a strong focus on performance. The challenge for organisations at that level is different. Planning and scheduling only works when planners, schedulers, supervisors and engineers share the same understanding of the fundamentals, and even mature teams accumulate gaps and local workarounds over time.

The client approached Reliability Academy in late 2024 about support with maintenance and reliability best practices. That conversation developed into a structured training program: give an experienced team a common foundation in planning and scheduling, then use that shared foundation to take a hard look at their own process.

The solution

What we did

The client enrolled an initial group of 20 personnel in the PS200 Maintenance Planning & Scheduling online course in October 2025. Participants worked through the course at their own pace (videos, quizzes and assignments applied to their own operation) supported by a kick-off session and four live Q&A sessions with Erik Hupje over the following weeks.

Once the online phase was complete, Reliability Academy conducted a four-day face-to-face workshop at the client's offices to reinforce the learning through group exercises and discussion. Participants assessed their own planning and scheduling process against what they had learned, identified strengths worth protecting and concrete improvement opportunities, and the outcomes were summarised for the client's maintenance leadership at the end of the engagement.

The outcome

The results

The training outcomes were measured and documented at course completion:

  • 19 of the 20 participants completed the online PS200 course before the workshop
  • Participants rated the course 4.6 out of 5 overall (course videos 4.8, course content 4.6, resources 4.6, overall experience 4.5; 17 respondents)
  • All 17 participants who completed the feedback survey said they would recommend the course to colleagues

The client keeps its operational performance data confidential, so this story does not include plant-level metrics. What the engagement produced, beyond trained people, was a prioritised set of improvement opportunities identified by the client's own team, grounded in a shared understanding of what good planning and scheduling looks like.
